Christmas in Hersham! – 13th Dec  don’t miss it!

The HRA is keen to promote and support community activities like this year’s Hersham Christmas event on Saturday 13th December. Following the success of last year we have again helped to coordinate this event – but so many others have worked so hard to make it happen and support it – that it feels like a real village effort which is great.

So do please come and join us, and see the Mayor of Elmbridge officially turn on Hersham’s Christmas tree lights at 5.00 on Hersham Green. He will be ably assisted by a special guest from the North Pole who will be arriving by sleigh at about 4.30.

The Promenade Choir will be warming things up in Hersham Green Shopping Centre from 4.15 and will help lead carols around the Christmas tree on the green from 4.45. The crowd will be encouraged to join in, and carol sheets will be provided – so bring your lanterns and torches so you can see the words. The Promenade Choir is an excellent local Hersham youth choir, and I hope you can come and appreciate them.

Mince pie and mulled wine will be available afterwards at the Watermans Arms from 5.00 – 6.00 when the Mayor will draw the winning raffle ticket for the Waitrose Hamper, all will be welcome.

Christmas provides a good opportunity to support the local shops, so why not wear your best (most outrageous) Christmas jumper and do some of your Christmas shopping in Hersham during the afternoon. To help with your shopping experience, a range of other activities have been arranged in the Hersham Green Centre on the 13th.

There will be carols from Churches Together in Hersham at 11.00, a children’s shopping quiz, and a charity raffle for a hamper donated by Waitrose. Mince pies, mulled wine and chestnuts will be available during the afternoon.

If shopping is not your thing, don’t miss the Hersham Hounds gathering on the Green at 12.30. Then later on you should take a look at the local history display in the Watermans Arms from 3.00 – 4.00. You can join Councillor Roy Green and others to discuss old Hersham over a drink.

All the local councillors, many local businesses, and the HRA have been involved in helping to organise and support this event. So, please come along and help to make it an occasion when Hersham can mark Christmas together as a community.
