Please come to our AGM at 7:30 (7:00 for refreshments) in the WI Hall Burhill Road – all Hersham Residents are very welcome including members, ex-members, prospective members and anyone who just wants to come along and find out about local issues.

Please see the agenda below. This is out first meeting for some time and will be important to discuss current local news, and future issues and arrangements for the HRA as we emerge from covid.

Updates on local issues

  • Updates from Hersham Youth Club and the Friends of Hersham Library
  • Update on Hersham Beer Festival
  • Esher bypass
  • Waitrose development

Wider discussion from perhaps 8.30 – possible areas for debate:

  • Potential collaboration with the Hersham Village Society
  • Restarting the Hersham Community Council campaign
  • Ideas for improving Hersham, including particularly things which might benefit from CIL (Community Infrastructure Levy) grant applications
  • Any other Hersham issues queries and questions not already covered earlier in the meeting

[The meeting is scheduled to finish at 9.00 – but could be extended slightly if there was interest in further debate]

HRA lockdown

HRA normal activities have been suspended for the moment in view of the current crisis – but will be resumed when government restrictions allow and it is safe to hold meetings again etc. The AGM which was scheduled for the 21st May will be cancelled this year and membership issues normally dealt with at the AGM will be handled separately. Thanks for bearing with us on this. If there are key local issues which you feel the HRA should be aware of during the lockdown please email info@hershamresidents.info

Lovehershamevent

Attended a very useful and inspiring event tonight the launch of the love Hersham initiative which will encourage people across Hersham to donate 500 hours of time to community events. The HRA would like to encourage participation and will be providing more details as the initiative develops.

‘Love Hersham’ initiative

This initiative is being launched on Thursday January 30th at 7:30pm at St Peter’s – all are welcome.

Love Hersham – see lovehersham is an exciting new initiative being organised by Hersham Churches Together which invites all members of the community, whether members of a church or not, to take part in a series of social action projects with a target of 500 hours of serving our community.

Ideas floated so far include

– volunteering to walk a Hersham Hound,
– organising an afternoon tea,
– setting up a group to clear the churchyard, or Vauxmead,
– gardening for the elderly,
– a family craft afternoon and
– involving children in litter picking.

The organisers would love to hear about any ideas for further projects or from anyone who could commit some time to help lead or assist in a project. Please send your ideas and your offers of help by email to lovehersham@gmail.com

The launch of Love Hersham will be Thursday January 30th at 7:30pm at St Peter’s. The organisers say that information and updates will be posted on the Facebook page, and on the website, lovehersham.co.uk. Please invite family, friends and neighbours to the launch and come along to find out how you can serve our community during lent this year.

18th February for the next HRA meeting at the Watermans Arms

A date has been fixed for the next HRA meeting at the Watermans Arms (function room from 7:30) – please note this for your diaries. Amongst other things the agenda will include an opportunity for brainstorming ideas, initiatives and new approaches the HRA might pursue in future.
