These minutes are draft and will be approved at the AGM in 2023. The AGM is usually held in April or May each year and provides an opportunity to review the year in Hersham, approve the association’s finances and hear from a local speaker of interest – also it is an opportunity to join and renew subscriptions.
All welcome : Public Meeting WI Hall Burhill Road Thursday 19th May at 19:30 – speakers announced!
By HRA Admin | May 14, 2022
Please come to our public meeting / AGM 7.00 for a 7.30pm start at the WI Hall* Burhill Road 19th May *(The green painted building close to the junction of Burwood Rd and Burhill Rd nr St Peter Church)
This is an opportunity to catch up with HRA activity during the year, and raise Hersham issues that you are concerned about. There will be refreshments and two excellent speakers on local issues:-
Nina Malyon Walton & Hersham Foodbank Manager will update us on the local food bank in Faulkners Road https://waltonhersham.foodbank.org.uk/
AND
Michael Tumilty Director of the local Community Eco Hub will talk about this very impressive local initiative. https://elmbridgeecohub.org.uk/
If you are interested in local issues you really should come to this meeting – we look forward to seeing you there (the meeting is likely to finish at approximately 9.30).
Letter sent to potential developers requesting liaison and more information – (see below for copy of letter).
Considering the rain – we had a good turnout at this year’s Hersham Christmas event around the tree on the Green – and it was great to enjoy the food and mulled wine afterwards at the Watermans. The raffle, of tickets sold during the day, was drawn at the Watermans and raised £690 for the Hersham foodbank. A great result!
Many thanks to all involved in the event – making it possible and of course to those selling and buying raffle tickets.
Happy Christmas to all!
Most Hersham residents will by now have received a brochure through the letterbox about the above, or have looked at details on the developer’s website https://hershamparkconsultation.co.uk/. If this initiative went ahead it would mean over 600 additional units of accommodation in Hersham. Whilst we are sympathetic to the need for adequate housing, the effects of such a development in Hersham would be significant in terms of the local roads which are already congested, and infrastructure generally including facilities such as Drs surgery capacity.
Many HRA members who attended the recent briefing session hosted by the developers were very concerned about the proposals and felt it would be important for local residents of any political party, and Hersham organisations generally, to come together to consider the issues and representative responses. The HRA, given its non-political status would be in a good position to help facilitate this; and to take this forward it has been suggested that a public meeting should be held early in the new year to share views and any further information about the plans which may be available at that time. The meeting would be important to gauge the strength of local feeling, so the HRA and others can engage with the developers and Elmbridge Council accordingly.
A date for the meeting has not yet been fixed, but it is likely to be held on a weekday evening towards the end of January. A traditional public meeting is envisaged – but if absolutely necessary due to covid issues, an alternative video meeting could be held instead. Any views, thoughts, ideas about the development and / or the proposed meeting, please mailto:Hersham.Residents@gmail.com. Please come to this year’s Hersham Christmas event on 11th December!
At 4.30 there will be carols around the tree led by the TWIG singers – carols sheets provided – be ready to use your phone torches to see the words.
We will have plenty space to socially distance in the fresh air – so it would be great to have as many as possible come along to this community event to mark the start of the festive season!
There’ll be seasonal greetings and Christmas messages around the tree before the lights are switched for the first time – which will show up the Christmas robins on the tree – made by Burhill school children.
After that the Watermans are looking forward to welcoming people in their function room to warm up with Christmas drinks, mince pies and the like.
There will be final opportunity at the Watermans to take part in this year’s Christmas raffle before the winning ticket is drawn at around 5:30 / 6:00. The prize is for a Hamper donated by Waitrose – the proceeds from the raffle will go to the Hersham Food Bank – so it’s a great chance to give to others who need help this Christmas.
Raffle tickets will also be sold during the day on Saturday 11 December outside Waitrose between 10.30 and 3.30. Tickets can be ‘purchased’ for the cost of a donation of any amount to the Foodbank. A table will be set up in Hersham Green Centre by Moore’s Kitchens opposite Waitrose. Again if anyone would like to help ‘sell’ the tickets, your help would be appreciated please email Hersham.Residents@gmail.com
Public exhibition about Hersham Park – which is a proposed housing development on Hersham Golf Club land.
The event is being run by the potential developers on Wednesday 10th of December at Hersham Centre for the Community Queens Road Hersham from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
This is another very significant development in Hersham (up to 636 new flats and houses) that we should all take an interest in and find out more about – the exhibition offers an opportunity to speak to the developers directly.
The HRA hopes as many local people as possible will be able to attend, and following the event we look forward to gathering any views and opinions sent through to info@hereshamresidents.info
Please see attached the minutes from this year’s AGM.
After the normal business and the election of officers – there was a useful discussion and some concern expressed about the proposal for future development at Hersham Golf Club (off the Molesey Road). There was also discussion about the Hersham Green Shopping Centre reflecting on local concerns raised. See the minutes for details.
It was felt that both these issues provide good reasons to support the HRA and become a member if you are not already. See our website for details about joining by PayPal – or otherwise email us to enquire at info@hershamresidents.info
