The campaign to create a Community Council for Hersham received a significant boost early in March 2018 when an official petition was submitted by the campaign group and was accepted by Elmbridge Borough Council. The number of signatures on the petition easily exceeded 7.5% of electorate which triggers a legal obligation for Elmbridge to carry out a review. The campaigners report that the overwhelmingly positive reaction to the proposals clearly shows that there is clearly a lot of support for the proposal.
